NEW DELHI: The second phase of Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Jharkhand, which was scheduled to begin on Wednesday, has been reportedly canceled. According to PTI, the cancellation occurred because the senior Congress leader needed to rush to Delhi to join in the ongoing farmers' protest in the national capital.

Punjab farmers are preparing to march to Delhi for the second day to demand a variety of rights, including a law establishing minimum crop support prices and loan waivers.

The planned meeting with MGNREGA workers in Ranka, Garhwa district, would now be led by senior Congress politician Jairam Ramesh and other party members. Gandhi was supposed to re-enter Jharkhand via Garhwa district from Chhattisgarh on Wednesday for the second round of his yatra there.

As decided late Tuesday night, all Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra programs in Jharkhand have been canceled," said Congress spokeswoman Sonal Shanti, adding that the yatra was unlikely to restart in Jharkhand at a later date. AICC general secretary Jairam Ramesh, Jharkhand Congress president Rajesh Thakur, Jharkhand in-charge Ghulam Ahmad Mir, NSUI in-charge Kanhiya Kumar, and other top Congress leaders will now attend the scheduled meeting with MGNREGA workers in Ranka on Wednesday.
